Russian Occupiers Conduct Arbitrary Searches in Crimea
Suppressing Freedom of Speech and Human Rights
Russia's occupation of Crimea has resulted in a systematic crackdown on freedom of speech and human rights. According to Crimea SOS, a Ukrainian rights organization, there have been at least 59 arbitrary searches conducted by the occupiers in Crimea during 2023 alone.
These searches are often carried out without any legal basis and are used as a pretext to intimidate and harass individuals who are critical of the Russian occupation. The occupiers have also used these searches to confiscate property and detain individuals.
Crimea SOS has also documented numerous other human rights violations committed by the occupiers, including arbitrary arrests, torture, and enforced disappearances. The organization has called on the international community to take action to stop these abuses.
The 2014 events in Crimea united society in a joint effort to protect the vulnerable. CrimeaSOS was created by volunteers as a Facebook page on the first day of the Russian occupation of the peninsula on February 27, 2014.
