Tottenham consolidate top-four spot after Aston Villa masterclass
Son Heung-min shines as Spurs put poor form behind them
After a stuttering start to the new year, Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways with an impressive 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday.
Son Heung-min was the star of the show for Spurs, scoring the opening goal with a clinical right-footed strike in the first half. The South Korean forward was a constant threat to the Villa defence throughout the match, and he capped off a fine performance by setting up Richarlison for Tottenham's third goal in the second half.
Antonio Conte's side dominated proceedings from start to finish, with Jhon Durán's long-range effort for Villa their only real chance of note. Tottenham's victory moves them up to fourth in the Premier League table, just three points behind leaders Arsenal. Villa, meanwhile, remain in 11th place after their fourth defeat in their last five matches.
